Union Minister U Myint Kyaing Receives UNHCR Resident Representative in Myanmar

Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received Resident Representative Ms Noriko Takagi of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Myanmar and party at the reception hall of the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on 6 February.

During the call, they frankly and cordially discussed the Union government’s undertakings to accept IDPs from Rakhine State, a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry, UNDP and UNHCR to support these processes, the implementation status of projects in designated areas within Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships under the MoU, coordination between the ministry and other relevant departments, UNHCR’s understanding of the obstacles to the readmission process, limitation to carry out activities due to the current security situation in the area, the status of available work to be done and the need to report on employment of local residents for UNHCR to the Ministry.

Also present were deputy ministers, direct0r-general U Ye Tun Oo and other officials, it is reported.
