The Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win attended a ceremony marking the 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Signals Corps Day which was held at Hsinbyushin Hall of the Nay Pyi Taw Interrogation and Accommodation Center on 5 February.
Present at the ceremony along with the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win were SAC members, Union ministers, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, retired senior officers from the Signals Corps, officials-concerned and distinguished guests.
First, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and officials cut the ribbon to open the ceremony marking the 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Signals Corps Day. Then, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) pressed the button to unveil the signboard to mark the Signals Corps Day.
The SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) spoke words of honour on the occasion as follows:
- Since the establishment of the Tatmadaw, the signals corps has been dutifully serving in accord with the mottos: “Swift, Sure, Secure and Seek Electronic Warfare”.
- Around 1949 of the post-independence era, the country faced the most armed insurgency that led to the worst, and the country was in the state of Yangon Government. At that time, a large number of communication devices lost, and most of the areas in Myanmar encountered interruption of communication on 31 January 1949.
- At that time, signals officers and other ranks made utmost efforts to repair the communication devices round the clock to resume communications nationwide. Hence, radio communication resumed across the nation on 5 February 1949.
- Such a day, the 5th of February in 1949 when the whole Tatmadaw could resume communications, was designated the “Signals Corps Day” as a significant day.
- The Signals Corps serves its primary duties of not only communications but contributes to the TV transmission sector as well whenever the country faces a State of Emergency.
- In order for the development of the State, the Corps built the first-ever Fibre Optic Network of Myanmar in 2001 for military and civilian use with the advancement of the information and communication technology with momentum.
- Hence, the corps secured 168 honorary medals on Excellent Performance in Administrative Field, Social Field, Industrial Economy Field and Technology including one Sithu title winner, one Pyidaungsu Zarni title winner, one Thiri Pyanchi title winner, seven Zeya Kyaw Htin title winners and 27 gallantry certificate winners.
- The members of the Signals Corps has to strive for preserving its fine traditions as a reliable corps of the Tatmadaw in the future and has to serve the communication technologies, the lifeblood of the Tatmadaw for its long-term existence.
Afterward, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win received a commemorative gift to mark the significant day presented by Director of Signals. Then, the Vice-Senior General cordially greeted retired senior signals officers and observed the booths of the corps.
