A Freight Train Derailed due to Mine Explosion between Pein Zaloat and Kyauktaga Railway Stations, Kyauktaga Township

At 7:35 am of 31 January, No.901 up-train left Pein Zaloat Stations in Kyauktaga Township of Bago Region. When the up-train arrived at mile post No.103/12-13 between Pein Zaloat and Kyauktaga Stations, a mine exploded planted by terrorists and insurgents. The explosion caused the derailment of three cargo coaches and the engine room.

As a consequence, at 9:40 am, the No.11 Up-Train from Yangon had to temporarily stop at Nyaunglaybin Station and Myanma Railways transported 208 passengers of the train to Taungoo Station by vehicles. Moreover, 252 passengers on No.12 Down-Train and No. 2 Down-Train at Taungoo Station were transported to Nyaunglaypin Station by vehicles.

Local officials and security personnel are currently engaged in undertaking tasks for safety and Myanma Railway employees are doing repair works to restore normality after they lifted derailed locomotive and other three coaches as early as possible.

From 1 February 2021 to date, terrorists and insurgents have committed 130 mine/bomb explosions, 46 bomb attacks on railway bridges and 12 arson attacks on station buildings and staff housings in the whole Myanmar railway network.

The Government is making public travel and freight transport convenient and fast. In this regard, it has been making arrangement for better railway infrastructures and for projects to upgrade the rail transportation system. By contrast, insurgents and terrorists have repeatedly committed terrorist acts to inflict damages on State-owned locomotives, coaches and goods; have threatened the lives of travellers as well as given them not to use rely on rail transportation again and atrociously interrupted the upgrades of rail projects of Yangon-Mandalay Railway. So, the people strongly oppose and condemn the atrocities of the terrorists and insurgents, it is reported.
