Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Delivers a Speech at Meeting (1/2024) of Union Government

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the meeting (1/2024) held by the Union Government at the meeting hall of the SAC Chairman Office in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 January, and delivered a speech as follows:

  • Walking along the path of democracy, it is found that there are requirements because of the differences between one government and another in carrying out the functions. In its tenure, SAC conducted to ensure equal development among regions and states as much as possible.
  • It is necessary to upgrade defence capability for improvement of State capability. So, it is required to fulfill equipment and accessories in compatibility with modern era for Tatmadaw and members of the Myanmar Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • At a time the government took office, State economy declined -5.9 percent. Hence, the SAC government emphasized promotion of the State economy.
  • So, the State economy attained 2.4 percent amidst the outbreak of COVID- 19 pandemic and political problems in 2021-2022 Financial Year (FY). Likewise, State economy reached 3.4 percent in 2022-2023 FY amidst political problems and economic sanctions as well as 3.3 percent development till December in 2023-2024 FY.
  • If all crops meet target production, the volume of products will increase, and larger incomes as well as demand will be higher.
  • From an economic point of view, the demand increases general lead to increased supply, contributing much to the monetary circulation.
  • The State government does not encourage extraction of underground and aboveground natural resources for exportation but allows the items from renewable resources due to needs of the State.
  • Measures are being taken to open all basic education schools, universities and colleges across the country, but they are unable to re-open because of those who carry out acts of sabotage. Therefore, students are suffering a lot.
  • As there are those who are committing subversive acts without sympathy with intent to harm the country’s education sector, concerted efforts must be exerted to improve the education sector.
  • The administrative bodies, security organizations, town elders, students, teachers and parents need to make concerted and energetic efforts for the successful completion of all basic school examinations.

Next, Union Ministers at the meeting reported on respective sectors. After hearing the reports, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister gave further suggestions regarding the presentations as follows:

  • It is necessary to operate cement plants at full capacity in the country to ensure cement sufficiency at home.
  • There are already favourable conditions to produce enough iron and steel domestically. But there is no production capacity yet. Officials are urged to lure businesspersons into investing in the iron and steel industries.
  • Efforts must be made to implement the State electricity projects as well as generate small-scale electricity in regions and states. Moreover, respective regions and states need to work to generate electricity through renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind power, and solar energy.

Also present were SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, union ministers and officials. Region and state chief ministers took part in the meeting through videoconferencing.
