A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khine attended ASEAN Tourism Forum-2024 and related Ministerial Meetings: ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN-China, Japan, South Korea Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN-Russia Federation Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, and related events, held at the Landmark Mekong Riverside Hotel in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, from 22 to 27 January. In this regard:
- On 25 January, Union Minister attended ASEAN Tourism Forum-2024 and the 27th meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers, and discussed on efforts to develop tourism sector in Myanmar for sustaining the tourism industry in ASEAN countries.
- In the evening, Union Minister participated in the 11th ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers’ Meeting and discussed on the requirements for the promotion of the implementations of work processes under the ASEAN-India Tourism framework with the use of funding sources.
- In the morning of 26 January, Union Minister was present at the 23rd ASEAN-China, Japan, South Korea Tourism Ministers’ Meeting and voted on proposals for holding the ASEAN-China Tourism Ministers Meeting to be commenced in 2025.
- In the evening, Union Minister participated in the 3rd ASEAN-Russia Federation Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, and discussed on the launching of direct flights between Russia and Myanmar as of September 2023 and the arrangement made for friendship trip for attracting more tourists from Russia.
- Moreover, Union Minister attended a press conference of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers, a meeting with the Prime Minister of Lao PDR H.E. Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, an awarding ceremony for ASEAN tourism standards, and the closing ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024. Then, Myanmar delegation arrived back in Myanmar in the evening of 27 January.
During the ASEAN Tourism Standards Prize Awarding Ceremony, Myanmar achieved five ASEAN Green Hotel Awards, three ASEAN MICE Venue Standard Awards (Category: Meeting Room), two ASEAN MICE Venue Standard Awards (Category: Exhibition Venue), three ASEAN MICE Venue Standard Awards (Category: Event Venue) and one ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award. Additionally, Keng Tung and Pathein were honoured with the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award.
