Tatmadaw Performs Fifth Successful Liver Transplant

The first liver transplant in Tatmadaw, performed on two patients on 27 and 28 September 2022 was a resounding success. Following that, Tatmadaw successfully conducted a third round of liver transplants on nine patients in 2023. At present, for the fifth time, liver transplant is going to be carried out on three patients and the first day of liver transplant surgery was done at the special care centre of the No. 1 Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) in Mingaladon Township on 27 January 2024.

It was done through cooperative efforts between the Tatmadaw liver transplant team and the Indian liver transplant team and the operation took about 11 hours.

The living liver donor and liver recipient patients are in good condition after the surgery. The patients are now in the ICU under the care of specialists, medical officers and nurses/technicians.

The officials from the hospital watched the operation and it will be continued on 28 and 29 January, it is reported.
