A civilian provided a tip-off to security personnel that there had been a plan to carry the contraband trade of weapons and ammunition in Hopong Township, southern Shan State. According to the tip-off, security forces conducted checked a convoy of five vehicles driven by armed men wearing uniforms of Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) in Sanphu Village. Then, there was a small exchange of fire as a man wearing PNLO uniform opened fire on security personnel. Next, as PNLO members torched their convoy of vehicles and fled from the scene, the probable ammunition in their vehicles exploded and local residents’ houses were caught fire, destroying 27 houses.
State Chief Minister, Deputy Commander of the military command and officials met victims of fire and provided rice, commodities, construction materials and cash assistance. In this regard;
- They presented 13.5 million kyats provided by Shan State Government to 27 households (i.e. 500,000 kyats for one household).
- They presented victims of fire with 5.4 million kyats (i.e. 200,000 kyats for one household) and 27 boxes of family case including 22 commodities provided by Department of Disaster Management.
- They provided 98 victims of fire with 882,000 kyats for ration for a month (i.e. 9,000 kyats for a victim) provided by Department of Disaster Management.
Next, State Chief Minister and officials provided blankets, mosquito nets, bed sheets, pillows, sweaters, Smart shirts, cash assistance, zinc roofing, nails, box with 22 items, tents, utensils and commodities to victims. They also provided cash assistance to security personnel who help contribute to victims.
