TNLA Insurgents Demolish a Pagoda near the Entrance to Namhsan of Northern Shan State, using a Backhoe

With the intentions to disturb peace and tranquility; to make public frightened and destroy the Government’s administrative machinery, terrorists are  willfully launching drone attacks and mortar attacks on pagodas, stupas, temples sacred to Buddhist people and other religious buildings including churches.

TNLA insurgents demolished a pagoda, which is sacred to local Buddhist people, by a backhoe from 10 to 20 January. The pagoda was built on a hill near the entrance to Namhsan town of northern Shan state. Moreover, they plundered treasures housed inside the pagoda.

The pagoda was built and erected a long time ago by Palaung Sawbwagyi Maha Thray Sithu Sao Khun Pan Sein. Local military personnel and locals conducted repairing activities, offering golden robes and hoisting golden umbrella atop the pagoda for many years.

The intentional and disrespectful act of destruction by TNLA insurgents on the pagoda is considered as a grave insult to Buddhism. Accordingly, Buddhist people including monks cannot abide their acts and are strongly making condemnation on the insurgents, it is reported.
