Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Delivers a Speech at Work Coordination Meeting 1/2024 of Central Committee on Myanmar Special Economic Zones

The Central Committee on Myanmar Special Economic Zones held its work coordination meeting 1/2024 at the Nyilarkan Hall of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw on 10 January. Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, who is in the capacity of the Chairman of the Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

During the meeting, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister delivered a speech as follows:

  • Special Economic Zones (SEZ) wise SOPs were systematically laid down by inviting international investments, and Myanmar SEZ Law 2014 was enacted in accord with the international procedures to practically carry out the functions through One Stop Services in order to implement the tasks in respective SEZ.
  • In doing so, the current amount of investment at the zones must be maintained, and new investments must be invited through various means.
  • In implementing the three SEZs in Myanmar currently, all are urged to make efforts for the soonest implementation of Kyaukpyu and Dawei SEZs.
  • Thilawa SEZ must maintain its existing investments and inflow of new investments through multiple means and apply systematic and precise means based on One Stop Service.
  • After signing the addendum, the Long Stop Date of Kyaukpyu SEZ was extended for 18 months as of 26 December and if condition precedents can be made during the period step by step urgently, the project can be implemented as soon as possible.
  • The third project is Dawei SEZ Project. At present, the Thai government is interested in Dawei SEZ project and managed reconnection. So, Myanmar needs to cooperate with them if necessary.

Afterward, Union Ministers and meeting members made sector-wise discussions and gave suggestions regarding the ongoing tasks of the respective SEZs. After hearing the reports, the Chairman of the Central Committee, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister coordinated necessary measures for discussions and reports, and the meeting concluded.
