Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Spreading Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena.

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, posted rumours on social media platforms that the residents are fleeing the village as security personnel set fire to the whole Nyawpyin Village of Launglon Township in Taninthayi Region. It is just false information. In reality, when security personnel located terrorists’ hide-out in the village and conducted a security operation, terrorists themselves set fire to their huts and fled from the scene.
  • “Myay Latt A Than”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that the Tatmadaw is demanding local residents for serving military service at Nattalin Township of Bago Region. It is just a vague rumour. In reality, the Tatmadaw did not force them to serve military service.

PDF terrorists taking position in houses snipe at security personnel; launch bomb attack on the latter; use locals as human shield; and make arson attacks on residential houses on their way of retreat. Unofficial and subversive media outlets are wilfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to cover up terrorists’ acts and create a misleading impression among local people and security personnel, it is reported.
