Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Spreading Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena.

  • “Development Media group”, an unofficial media outlet, posted rumours on social media platforms that the Tatmadaw arrested approximately 60 civilians in Sittway, using massive force. It is just misinformation. In reality, security personnel conducted routine security checks for local peace and did not make any wanton arrest of innocent civilians.
  • “Mizzima”, an unofficial media outlet, spread false information on social media platforms that the Natthankwin market was caught fire due to the explosion of heavy weapon fired by the Tatmadaw personnel. It is just false information. In reality, the shells fired by terrorists on security forces exploded inside the Natthankwin market and caused it burned.
  • “Delta News Agency”, an unofficial media outlet, posted rumours on social media platforms that 28 political prisoners were kept in shackles at custody for certain years. It is just false information. In reality, those prisoners took the prison officials as hostages and tried to escape in a violent riot, so they were placed in solitary confinement, shackled, and prosecuted under the Prison Act.
PDF terrorists taking position in houses snipe at security personnel; launch bomb attack on the latter; use locals as human shield; and make arson attacks on residential houses on their way of retreat. Unofficial and subversive media outlets are wilfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to cover up terrorists’ acts and create a misleading impression among local people and security personnel, it is reported.
