Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Spreading Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression of the Tatmadaw in the international arena.

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, posted rumours on social media platforms that a civilian was killed and a house destroyed by fire due to the mortar attack of the Tatmadaw personnel on Taung Maw Village in Kawlin Township. It is just an allegation. In reality, the Tatmadaw personnel did not shell the village.
  • “The Taninthayi Times”, an unofficial media outlet, alleged that some residential houses were destroyed as the Tatmadaw personnel shelled Nyaung Bin Kwin village in Taninthayi Township during the New Year Occasion. It is just fabricated news. In reality, PDF terrorists launched an improvised mortar attack on local military unit that exploded in the village.
PDF terrorists taking position in houses snipe at security personnel; launch bomb attack on the latter; use locals as human shield; and make arson attacks on residential houses on their way of retreat. Unofficial and subversive media outlets are wilfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to cover terrorists’ acts and create a misleading impression among local people and security personnel, it is reported.
