Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Spreading Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country, sow discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to misunderstand the Tatmadaw in the international arena.

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread an allegation on a social media platform that some people were killed as the Tatmadaw personnel shelled Pyinmabin and Yaytarshay villages in Kyauktaga Township. In reality, the Tatmadaw personnel did not shell those villages and no casualties were reported.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media outlet, spread a vague rumour on a social media platform that the Tatmadaw personnel arrested 83 locals in Ngar Tant Ai Village of Thabeikkyin Township. In reality, the Tatmadaw personnel are conducting area security as they receive the information about the robbery and killing of local people by terrorists near the village. But no detention of local people was reported.

Unofficial and subversive media are wilfully spreading such disinformation and fake news on social media platforms in order to give a misleading impression among local people, civil servants, administrative institutions; and create disruption to counter-terrorism operations being conducted by the Tatmadaw together with the people, and disturb the State’s peace and stability, it is reported.
