Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Joins virtually Fourth Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting

The Fourth Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting was held on 25 December. The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing joined the meeting through the videoconferencing system, and discussed as follows:

  • The Senior General expressed his gratitude to the People's Republic of China for its continuous flow of aid and assistance for Mekong- Lancang member countries.
  • The member countries have to assist each other under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation procedure for industrial development and economic modernization.
  • The member countries have to cooperate with each other in sharing technologies and expertise to improve the public health sector and implement Mekong-Lancang Cooperation for the development of infrastructures.
  • He also welcomed “the plans for the establishment of Mekong-Lancang tourism cities and the development and partnership of Mekong-Lancang aviation travels”.
  • It is necessary to enhance the cooperation of member countries in the rule of law to combat transnational crimes, drug production and trafficking, human trafficking, terror acts, cybercrimes, and online gambling become hindrances to regional security and economic development.
  • He also recognized the important role of the regional coordination sector being initiated by “the Mekong-Lancang Security and Rule of Law Cooperation Centre”.
  • As the co-chair and responsible member, Myanmar has always valued the policies of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation. The Senior General reaffirmed its commitment to continue to actively participate in the implementation of the policies in accordance with the policies and the sentiments.

The meeting released the Nay Pyi Taw Declaration as a policy guide for future plans, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Plan of Action (2023-2027) and the Joint Initiative on the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Innovation Corridor Development aiming to boost neighborliness, friendship and practical cooperation among member countries. Then, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General handed over the duty of alternate co-chairmanship to Thailand.

The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister of the Republic of Union of Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Premier Mr. Li Qiang of the People’s Republic of China as co-chairpersons, with attendance of Prime Minister of Cambodia, Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
