Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Delivers a Speech at 22nd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar

The opening ceremony of the 22nd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-II (MICC-II) in Nay Pyi Taw on 21 December. The Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, in his capacity as the Patron of the Leading Committee, attended the meeting. Then, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Chairman of Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council U Myint Oo and Member of the Advisory Board to the Traditional Medicine U Myint Lwin formally cut the ribbon to open the ceremony.

First, the video message sent by the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar was shown. After that, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister delivered a speech as follows:

  • The conference and seminar will create chances to exchange experiences and knowledge relating to the traditional medicine. Moreover, the experienced traditional medicine practitioners will have the chance to hand over legacy to new generations at the conference and seminar, and new generations will have the chance to seek the excellent knowledge and experiences from the veteran practitioners.
  • As the government is encouraging the traditional medicine sector, the Vice-Senior General expressed his great pleasure for the exerting efforts of the traditional medicine practitioners.
  • Nowadays, Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners have been nurtured at the diploma course level, graduate level and master’s degree level. Efforts must be made for development of traditional medicines at home while it is necessary to cooperate with traditional medicine sectors of global countries.
  • Being a member of the ASEAN, Myanmar is cooperating with other member countries in all sectors. It can be seen that Myanmar is keeping abreast of other members in registration and trade of traditional medicines.
  • Likewise, Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners cooperate with international organizations such as BIMSTEC and Mekong.
  • In reviewing the world’s health and medicine area, it is found that the use of drugs formulated with the parts of medicinal plants has become more important internationally.  
  • The Department of Traditional Medicine under the Ministry of Health, the the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council, the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, the Traditional Medicine Manufacturers and Practitioners are urged to work together in unity and cooperation towards further development of traditional medicine.

Then, the SAC-Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win received a commemorative gift presented by the Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win, and took documentary photos together with the officials. They then viewed round the traditional healing rooms and booths displayed at the event.

The ceremony was attended by the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win,  SAC members, Union ministers and officials, the practitioners from the Traditional Medicine Hospitals, faculty members and students from the University of Myanmar Traditional Medicine.
