Unofficial and Subversive Media Outlets Spreading Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media outlets have been creating and spreading fabricated news by a multi-sectoral approach to cause instability and unrest in the country, sow discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and create misunderstanding over the Tatmadaw in the international arena.  

• The news that states USD 20 million worth of entry fees and cash donation for Shwedagon Pagoda as well as entry fees and cash donation in US dollars for Botahtaung Pagoda are changed with MMK by valuing at the exchange rate of 2,100 kyats per dollar.

Unofficial subversive media are wilfully spreading such rumors and fake news in order to disturb peace and stability of the state and give misleading impression between the people and the Tatmadaw, it is reported.
