Terrorists Create and Spread Disinformation and Fake News in order to Cause Unrest and Misunderstand the Tatmadaw

Unlawful and destructive media outlets have been creating and spreading fabricated news by a multi-sectoral approach to cause instability and unrest in the country, sow discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and create misunderstanding over the Tatmadaw in the international arena.  

• The news that states local residents in Thanbo Village of Yinmabin Township got injured due to the shell of the Tatmadaw is just fabricated information. In reality, no clash broke out near the village and the Tatmadaw did not shell it.
• The news that states security personnel killed two local residents in Shwe Gyin after detention is just disinformation. In reality, the Tatmadaw members have not operated in the said-village and nearby villages. However, only armed terrorists occasionally enter the village for obtaining money by extortion, making forced recruitment and motiveless abductions as well as killings if their demands were not met.
• The news that alleges the Rakhine State Government issued an order to take legal actions against those who make comments and sharing on the posts written by the Rakhine based news agencies is just fabrication. In reality, the Rakhine State Government did not issue such order, it is reported.
• The news that states at least 50 former military personnel who have been medically retired were taken by the military to deploy the areas where clashes break out is just fabrication. The Tatmadaw did not take them back, according to the ground information.
• The news that states a commander of Military Operations Command fell in battle is just disinformation which intends to ruin the Tatmadaw’s reputation and undermine military personnel’s morale. It is learnt that the information is not true.
• The news that states people in some villages of Pathein Township are forced to cast lots for doing militia trainings is just a rumour. No directives to conduct such training have been given in the said-township and others.

Unofficial subversive media abetting to acts of terrorism are spreading such rumors in order to frighten civil servants who fulfill the state’s duty and peaceable local ethnic people. The Government is continuing to take necessary measures for the peace and stability of the state as well as the prevalence of law and order, it is reported.
