Union Ministers Receive IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Union Minister for Labour Dr Pwint San received Ms. Sarah Lou Ysmael Arriola, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of International Organization for Migration (IOM), at the respective ministries in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 June.

• During the courtesy call between Union Minister for Foreign Affairs and IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, they shared their views on the matters pertaining to the support of the IOM to the people of Myanmar in the field of migration, the updates on progress of IOM current work programmes in Myanmar and the cooperation between two sides.
• During the courtesy call between Union Minister for Labour and IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, both sides friendly discussed the matters for signing of a new MoU since the MoU signed in 2018 expired in 2021, points to be included in the Action Plan of the MoU and matters on ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and the IOM after signing of MoU, further cooperation to be made and assistance to be provided for Myanmar migrant workers.

Also present together with the Union ministers at the meeting were deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general and officials, high ranking officials. The Director-General, IOM Asia-Pacific Regional Director Ms. Sarah Lou Ysmael Arriola was accompanied by IOM Chief of Mission for Myanmar Mr. Dragan Aleksoski and Regional Migration Policy Support Officer Mr Chaoqian Xiong.
