Seized Narcotics Incinerated on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Incineration ceremonies of narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals within a year in Myanmar marking the 36th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking were held in Taunggyi, Yangon and Mandalay on June 26.

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Shan state Chief Minister and Shan state government ministers attended the incineration ceremony in Taunggyi. Yangon Chief Minister and Yangon region government ministers attended the incineration ceremony in Yangon. Mandalay Chief Minister and Mandalay region government ministers and relevant officials attended the incineration ceremony in Mandalay.

Representatives from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Australian Federal Police (AFP), China National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC), Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and international community attended the ceremony in Yangon. Consulate General from the Mandalay-based Chinese Consulate General Office and representatives from partner organizations attended the ceremony in Mandalay.

  • A total of 23 kinds of narcotics and 52 items of precursor chemicals worth over K 355.268 billion (over US$ 169.175 million) including over 475.885 kilograms of opium, over 562.809 kilograms of heroin, over 83 million stimulant tablets, over 4,793.308 kilograms of ICE, over 805.359 kilograms of ketamine, over 180.876 kilograms of marijuana, over 307.315 kilograms of brown opium powder confiscated from Shan state and Kayah state were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Taungyi.
  • A total of 20 items of narcotics and 16 kinds of precursor chemicals worth over K 436.456 billion (over US$ 207.836 million) including 176.232 kg of opium, over 92.521 kilograms of heroin, over 45 million stimulant tablets, over 12,748.305 kilograms of ICE, over 728.838 kilograms of opium powder, over 4,163.132 kilograms of ketamine, over 385.877 kilograms of marijuana confiscated from Yangon region, Ayeyawady region, Rakhine state, and the lower parts of Myanmar were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Yangon.
  • A total of 19 narcotic drugs and 15 precursor chemicals worth over K 144.998 billion (over US$ 69.046 million) including over 478.031 kilograms of opium, over 610.445 kilograms of heroin, over 25 million ecstasy pills, over 3,527.754 kilograms of ICE, over 22.673 kilograms of ketamine and over 274.787 kilograms of marijuana confiscated from Mandalay region, Sagaing region, Kachin state, and upper and middle part of Myanmar were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Mandalay.
  • A total of 108 kinds of drug and chemical substances worth over K 936.723 billion (over US $ 446.058 million) including over 1,130.149 kilograms of opium, over 1,265.777 kilograms of heroin, over 154 million stimulant tablets, over 21,069.367 kilograms of ICE, over 728.838 kilograms of opium powder, over 841 kilograms of marijuana, over 4,991.165 kilograms of ketamine and over 307.315 kilograms of brown opium powder seized in 2023 were destroyed.

In accord with the guidance of the Chairman of the State Administration Council, the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and the Anti-Narcotics Police have stepped up efforts to carry out drug control activities, and large quantities of narcotics and precursor chemicals were seized and destroyed, it is reported.
