Rehabilitation Activities Underway for the Loss and Damage caused by Cyclonic Storm (MOCHA)

The departmental officials from relevant Ministries as well as relief and rescue task forces organized and sent in advance by the Tatmadaw have been actively carrying out the rescue and rehabilitation activities in the areas where losses and damages occurred in the aftermath of cyclonic storm (MOCHA). In this regard:

  • From 14 to 20 June, senior military officers tasked to oversee rehabilitation activities in storm-hit areas like Kyaukpyu, Buthidaung, Thandwe, Rathedaung, Maungdaw, Myebon and Kyauktaw of Rakhine State as well as Matupi and Paletwa in Chin State oversaw healthcare services provided by mobile medical teams and clearing activities including drainage construction works at the wards and schools; inspected regular checks on relief items donated by the committee on disaster rehabilitation and donors. They also presented relief items, food stuffs and cash donation to monasteries and provided supplies and cash assistance for school repairing works. 
  • On 14 and 20 June, the relief and rescue teams, currently in Sittwe, Mrauk-U Kyaukpyu, Kyautaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Maungdaw provided necessary healthcare services to victims; provided water supply to them; cleared fallen trees and branches off the monasteries and beside the roads; and repaired damaged street light poles.
  • On 17 to 20 June, SAC member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San and party oversaw rehabilitation works by relief and rescue teams at Sittwe University, loading and unloading works of relief and rehabilitation supplies at multipurpose port in Sittwe, repair works of main electric cables at Technological University (Sittwe), healthcare services provided to storm victims at Kyat Kine Tan village hall, repair works of Rakhine State Hluttaw meeting hall, guest house and family housings. He also attended coordination meetings on renovations to damaged religious structures and on recovery work of livestock and aquaculture.
  • As Ministry of Electric Power has repaired 66 kV Ponnagyun-Kyauktaw cables affected by MOCHA storm, electricity has been fully distributed to urban wards including Maha Muni Pagoda in Kyauktaw since 18 June.      
  • On 19 June, Union Minister Dr. Thet Khine Win held a meeting on healthcare services and repair works of structures in Rakhine State at Central Command Centre of Ministry of Health.

Union Ministers, relevant Region/State Chief Ministers, commanders of regional military commands and responsible departmental officials encouraged the said rehabilitation activities collectively conducted by military personnel, members of Myanmar Police Force and Myanmar Fire Brigade, staff from respective ministries and civil societies, and also attended to their needs, it is reported.
