UEC Chair and Party Examine Activities of Union Solidarity and Development Party, Kokang Democracy and Unity Party, and Shan State Kokang Democratic Party, and Meets Officials

The Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) U Thein Soe and party met the chairpersons and members of the Kokang Democracy and Unity Party (KKDUP) and Shan State Kokang Democratic Party at the local battalion guest house in Lashio on 19 June, and said the following points:

  • It is necessary to comply with the financial regulations and rules issued by the UEC to the registered political parties, and urged them to gather party members and open party offices in a designated period.
  • Considering the voter fraud that occurred in the previous election, the relevant Hluttaw election laws and By-laws are being amended and enacted. After the enactment, political parties must cooperate under the law, and they will be allowed to cooperate in the process of compiling and verifying votes. They then inspected the activities of the political parties in line with Political Parties Registration Law and By-laws.

Then, the UEC members U Than Tun, U Soe Oo and U Aung Moe Myint met the chairperson and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) on 19 June at its Headquartes located at plot no. (5), corner of Yazathingaha and Shwepyitawin Roads in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory while the chairperson briefed on the activities of the party. Then, the UEC members said as follows:

  • It needs to gather 100,000 party members within 90 days after granting of registration as a political party, and to comply with the financial regulations.
  • It is necessary to contact with the Departments of Immigration and Population to replace the three-fold national registration cards that the party members are holding, by the Citizenship Scrutiny Cards.
  • It needs to strive for participating in the executive and legislative sectors of the State after electing the Hluttaw candidates representing their parties in the forthcoming elections to be held in accord with PR system. They then inspected the activities of the political party in line with Political Parties Registration Law and By-laws.

Later, the UEC members viewed round the meeting hall, office of the chairperson, offices of the central executive committee members, library, the archive storing the members of party and lecture rooms, it is reported.
