Efforts made to Increase Export Volume in the Fiscal Year of 2023-2024

During the tenure of the State Administration Council Government, efforts are being made to increase export volume via border trade posts and regular trade routes. As a result:

  • From 1 April to 12 May 2023 in the fiscal year of 2022-2023, Myanmar exported 167,992.307 tonnes of varieties of pulses to foreign markets via sea route and 19,616.045 tonnes of pulses via border trade posts, generating an income of USD 143.454 million.
  • Within nine-month period from September 2022 to May 2023, Myanmar shipped 1.7 million tonnes of corn and set to export 2 million tonnes to foreign countries in the fiscal year of 2023-2024.
  • 57 cargo ships will dock at the Yangon ports.

As Myanmar grows over 2 million acres of corn, it can harvest 3.2 million tonnes per year. Myanmar should expand the cultivation of corn because it can generate over USD 600 million. Again, corn can be shipped for foreign trade partners and demand in regional countries was also large, it is reported.
