Rehabilitation Activities Underway for the Loss and Damage Caused by Cyclonic Storm (MOCHA)

The departmental officials from relevant Ministries as well as relief and rescue task forces organized and sent in advance by the Tatmadaw are actively carrying out the rescue and rehabilitation activities in the areas where losses and damages occurred in the aftermath of cyclonic storm (MOCHA).

  • On 25 and 27 May, Brig-Gen Khin Zaw arriving in Minbya, and Brig-Gen Kyaw Kyaw Soe arriving in Myebon, respectively oversaw unloading rice and food stuffs from Kaladan ship, which are donated by Rakhine State Government and donors, by military personnel and other staff.
  • On 26 and 27 May, relief and rescue teams arrived in Ponnagyun, Mrauk-U, Rathedaung and Butheetaung carried out clearing activities of fallen trees/branches in monasteries and schools. Then, they provided purified drinking water and foods to storm victims. Mobile medical teams are also providing health services to them.
  • On 26 May, special medical team under Directorate of Medical Service provided health services to victims in wards /villages of Sittwe.
  • On 27 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San, inspected completed repair works along the strand street of Sittwe, and repair works of Post office in Sittwe.
  • Works are under way for repair of TV stations in Sittwe. So, people can receive Myawady TV with 642 MHz (130 watt) and Thzin FM with 88.6 MHz (540 watt) at around six mile away since 22 May. Efforts are being made day and night to receive broadcasting from Myawady repeating station and Thazin repeating station.
  • 904 stations in Rakhine State had faced out of service during the storm. Since repair works have been done until 27 May, 768 mobile stations (88.97%) have been repaired and communication services have resumed.
  • There needs 2,933 sand quarries for repairing of embankments among 32 ones in Rakhine State. Up to 27 May, works for 10,365 sand quarries (31.47%) have been done.

Union Ministers, relevant Region/State Chief Ministers, commanders of regional military commands and responsible departmental officials encouraged the said rehabilitation measures being made by military personnel, Myanmar Police Force members, departmental staff and volunteer teams, and also attended to the needs, it is reported.
