The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing held the Emergency Meeting on Natural Disaster Management at the assembly hall of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief in the morning of 15 May, in order to carry out the duties of emergency management, response, rescue and cooperation, readiness with grouping and rehabilitation in towns and villages that have been hit by the cyclonic storm “Mocha” and those along the paths of cyclone.
During the meeting, Union Ministers, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung and officials presented reports as follows:
- The undertakings of rescue and evacuation in storm-affected areas in progress and damages and destructions caused by the cyclone in Rakhine State.
- Overcoming the problems with least casualties preparedness because of the preparations for other needs by Tatmadaw and departmental personnel in cooperation with people in the villages and towns which may be destroyed by storm as per the instructions of the Prime Minister.
- Efforts for there being no ending disconnection in towns and villages of Rakhine State along the route of the storm.
- Plans for further sending of military medic teams to storm-affected areas for providing healthcare services, and loss and damage at some pagodas in Bagan ancient cultural region.
After hearing the reports, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister instructed the officials as follows:
- The military engineer corps needs to transport corrugated iron sheets and construction materials to storm-affected areas in Rakhine State as quickly as possible by aircraft, naval vessels and vehicles in order to carry out the rehabilitation measures.
- Military engineers must be sent to the affected areas to repair power lines at soonest. Necessary foodstuffs and personal goods must also be sent to there.
- It is necessary to keep foodstuffs and personal goods for the storm-hit areas in the tents to prevent loss and damage.
- As storm warnings were released in time, the country overcame the challenges of the storm with the least casualties.
- Relief teams must be sent to the storm-affected areas to carry out rescue and relief tasks as well as rehabilitation. Moreover, foodstuffs, purified drinking water, personal goods and construction materials must be transported to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
- Communication networks must be repaired as early as possible. It needs to maintain the damaged ancient pagodas in the Bagan ancient cultural zone.
Also present at the meeting were Joint-Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers, Yangon Region Chief Minister, Commander-in-Chief (Navy), Commander-in-Chief (Air), senior officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Commander of the Yangon Command and responsible officials.
