A ceremony to donate cash to the fund for rescue, relief and rehabilitation for the extremely severe cyclonic storm Mocha-hit areas took place at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha of Yangon Command Headquarters on 15 May. The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony.
First, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister said matters relating to the relief and rescue tasks and plans to carry out rehabilitation at the storm-hit areas as follows:
- Thanks to the weather reports, the likelihood of a storm could be noticed about nine days in advance. Moreover, Chairman of Natural Disaster Management Committee SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win was assigned with the tasks to carry out preventive measures.
- Early warnings on cyclonic storm were issued as soon as officials reported that the storm might hit Myanmar, preparatory measures have been taken in advance. Due to proper preparations before the storm, only five persons were dead in the impacts of the storm according to the latest information.
- Thanks to the information that the well-wishers would like to contribute to the disaster-affected areas, the ceremony was held and cash donations were accepted.
- He expressed belief in the saying which goes: “Strength of the nation lies within,” if all the people are united at a time when the country has requirements and thanked the donors for their ardent participation.
- Officials from the AHA Centre arrived in Myanmar to give necessary aid to the country whereas other countries also made offers to Myanmar for providing aid.
- Well-wishers made contributions to the storm-affected areas with their own willingness.
- The government has been overcoming hardships since 2021. As such, the ceremony is an indication of the resurgence of the domestic business and national economy.
- It is a pleasure for “such donations to entire storm-hit people” at a time when the country has requirements. The donations will be allotted not only to Rakhine State but also to other storm-hit areas.
- He believed that the country will be able to march along its desired path with peace and tranquility if all work in harmony and unison for the country in any situation and any time.
On behalf of Tatmadaw members and families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air), Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Soe Min Oo presented K1 billion to be spent on rescue, relief and rehabilitation tasks in the storm-affected areas to the SAC Chairman Prime Minister, and well-wishers and donors presented cash donations to the Senior General.
Today, K13.181 billion in total donated by families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers is to be spent on rescue, relief and rehabilitation tasks in the storm-hit areas.
