When the Cyclone Mocha heading to Rakhine Coast make landfall, so as to carry out emergency rescue and relief operations, relevant Ministries, region and state governments, military personnel from respective Military Regional Commands are speeding up the measures of preparations as follows –
- The meeting of Natural Disaster Management Committee was held at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Nay Pyi Taw on 11 May. The meeting focused on the matters pertaining to preparations in the townships of Rakhine and Chin states; complete evacuation processes and make the rehabilitation operations as quickly as possible with the minimum of losses; updates of collecting manpower, vehicles, machineries for emergency search-and-sescue-SAR missions; Cyclone Shelter and evacuation of people and materials; updates on Rapid Response Teams (RRT) for emergency healthcare services; and readiness of relief items including shelter tents and tarpaulin sheets.
- From 10 to 13 May, - in Myitkyina Township of Kachin State, Paung and Chaung Sone Townships of Mon State and Mingaladon Township of Yangon Region, Pathein city and Yay Kyi township of Ayeyarwady region, Hakha townshiop of Chin state, Pin Laung township of Shan state (south), Khamti township of Sagaing region Chief Ministers of relevant regions and states, Military Regional Commander, and officials were making preparations like recuse teams prepared in advance, storing the relief items and materials, cyclone shelter construction and storage of five types of rations and drinking water in their respective regions.
- On 12 May, Commander of Southwest Region Command and officials met and encouraged the people taking shelter from the storm and also provided them foodstuffs and fulfilled their needs.
- On 12 May, under the leadership of the Kachin state Disaster Management Department, pamphlets of disaster-preparedness awareness were distributed to the people at crowded places of crossroads, markets, car gates in Myitkyina town.
- On 13 May, members of units/departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs conducted awareness and educating programmes about the cyclonic storm in Bhamao township of Kachin state, Daik-U township of Bago region, five townships of Mandalay region, 15 townships of Rakhine state, Dagon myothit (south) of Yangon region, 14 townships of Ayeyarwady region.
- Moreover, local military personnel are also carrying out evacuation processes before the arrival of strom, removal of debris of fallen trees in storm winds, transport facilitation while water overflowing on creeks, rescue work, emergency search, first aid and evacuation processes.
- On 13 May, preparedness measures were speeded up evacuating people from low-laying neighbourhoods and villages of Kyaukpyu township which is on the way of the red-stage storm.
- On 13 May, rescue teams comprising local military personnel under South-west Command, departmental officials, volunteers evacuated residents from low-lying neighbourhoods and villages along the coast, which may be affected by the storm to the temporary shelters. These activities were supervised by the Military Region Commander.
Myanmar Radio and Television and Myawady Television are broadcasting the hourly-updates of the status of the Cyclone Mocha in timely manner and measures are being taken to evacuate the people in villages and townships on the way of the Cyclone.
