Meeting on Clarification of Work Operation by Disaster Management Centre Held

The meeting on the clarification of the work operation by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC)  was held at the center on 9 May, which was attended by National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) Vice-Chair 1 Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, NDMC Vice-Chair 2 Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine, NDMC Secretary Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, secretaries from work committees and officials.

During the meeting, NDMC Vice-Chair 1 Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister Lt-Gen Soe Htut discussed as follows:

  • The DMC was opened as per the guidance of NDMC Chairman made at the emergency meeting on 6 May.
  • Depending on the situation of the cyclone, there will be four phases: normal, emergency and critical and rehabilitation. Currently, the measures for normal and emergency period are being conducted.
  • The systematically collected data should be reported to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council.
  • The DMC should run for 24 hours. It should make preparations not to occur communication failures.
  • Depending on the situation and changing path of the storm, it can carry out measures for the period of emergency and critical at the same time.
  • The DMC should share the information to make decisions.
  • The officials from DMC need to coordinate with each other not to occur damages much in the storm and to effectively conduct the rehabilitation processes.

Then, the officials from working committees also discussed the structure of DMC and operations, the current weather condition, the weather forecast and reviews on the website of the international weather station and Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, and stand-by rescues teams in regions/states. Later, the Vice Chair (1) and (2) of National Disaster Management Committee coordinated requirements in responding to the clarifications.
