The low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea persists. It is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm and is likely to move towards Myanmar. Therefore, precautionary measures are being taken in momentum in regions and states for disaster relief and emergency care.
- Under the instruction of the Prime Minister, the Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee-NDMC Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win held an emergency meeting of the Committee on 6 May and gave instructions on processes to be made for the possible storm.
- Working Committee on International Relations under the National Disaster Management Committee held the meeting to discuss matters related to smooth facilitation of flight clearance and landing permits of the flights, tariff exemptions, entry visas, and loading and unloading matters among others.
- Ministry of Transport and Communications held a coordination meeting and discussed the matters related to preparatory works for a pool of vehicles and machineries, and the management to find the route for the transport those vehicles by road and by sea. Again, the meeting discussed for the readiness of vehicle mounted mobile satellite systems in order to avoid the loss of communications.
- Ministry of Electrical Power held a meeting and discussed matters related to placement of generators in advance at the command offices, hospitals and rescue camps to avoid the power outage. The meeting then discussed the measures to control the power on/off system to avoid the electric shock risk and to prepare for the prevention of project buildings and dams that are completed and under construction during the disaster.
- Efforts were also made for the rehearsals at the fire brigade stations in 14 townships of Rakhine State, two townships of Yangon Region and nine townships of Ayeyawady Region and public announcements.
- The Tatmadaw members of local units under Western Command, Coastal Region Command, Southeast Command, Southwest Command, Yangon Command, Nay Pyi Taw Command, Central Command, Northwest Command, Northeast Command and Eastern Command participated in the rehearsals, together with local militiamen, Myanmar Police Force members, Red Cross Society members and philanthropic groups.
- Commanders of the afore-said regional military commands inspected preparedness and rehearsals of the disaster rescue teams and the store of medicine and medical supplies as well as food and drinking water.
Rescue equipment, medicine and medical equipment, cyclone shelters and rescue teams are in readiness in Mayangon Township of Yangon Region, nine Townships in Ayeyawady Region, Mandalay City Development Committee, warehouses for relief items, central warehouses for medicine and Pyin Oo Lwin Township for the possible cyclonic storm. Concerned Region/State Chief Ministers and officials inspected the preparedness and coordinated necessary measures, it is reported.
