A Ceremony of World Immunization Week 2023 Held

A ceremony of “World Immunization Week 2023” was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on 27 April.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win, deputy minister, directors-general and officials, Medical Superintendent of Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1000-bedded), officials from the Office of the Directorate of Medical Services, Commander of Health and Disease Control Unit, Chairpersons, Secretaries, and officials from Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Myanmar Red Cross Society, officers and directors of Public Health Departments in regions and states, medical doctors who are taking responsibilities for expanded programme on immunization and basic health staff, and the officials from WHO and UNICEF.

During the ceremony, Union Minister stressed the following points:

  • The motto of this year is “The Big Catch-Up”. It is needed to act to catch-up the children who missed out on vaccines and did not received vaccination in full doses during the COVID-19 pandemic, restore essential immunization coverage.
  • Marking “World Immunization Week 2023”, the Department of Public Health under Ministry of Health accelerated the regular vaccination and catch-up vaccination programmes in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, and regions/states and townships in the country from 24th to 30th April, 2023.
  • Receiving vaccination in full doses at their respective ages can help protect against the certain diseases by imitating an infection. Therefore, the entire public are required to cooperate with health staff not to happen the epidemic.

Then, Union Minister and party viewed round the mini exhibition booths displayed the records of vaccination activities to the expectant mothers and children in the townships of regions and states by the extended vaccination division of the Department of Public Health, and encouraged the giving vaccination to the children under 3 who missed out the vaccination in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and presented gifts to the children.
