A Coordination Meeting on the Plans to Accelerate the Preventive Measures for Omicron Variant XBB.16 Held

A coordination meeting on the plans to accelerate the preventive measures for Omicron variant XBB.16 was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on 21 April. 

At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win highlighted the following points:

• Although the Covid-19 genetic mutant strain XBB 1.16, which is currently spreading in some countries of the world and neighbouring countries is 1.27 time faster in infection more than the previous variants, the symptoms were not more severe.
• It can also be cured with the current treatment method and the vaccines being provided in the country can prevent effectively. Receiving booster shots can effectively mitigate infection of the virus.
• The Department of Medical Research has to increase genetic tests on Omicron variant and to make preparation measures for other necessary medication including antiviral drugs, prevention equipment, quarantine centre and treatment centre in advance.
• All of the people must follow the COVID-19 precautionary instructions and rules issued by the Ministry of Health.

The attendees discussed the relevant sectors related to COVID-19 disease which is currently spreading in some countries of the world, regional countries and Myanmar, the plans to accelerate the preventive measures for COVID-19 infection, it is reported.
