Ceremony to Inaugurate Haw Palace (Haw Kham Shan Wi) of Hsenwi Saopha Hkun Hsang Tone Hung Renovated as Hsenwi Haw Palace Cultural Museum Held

The inauguration ceremony of Haw Palace (Haw Kham Shan Wi) of Hsenwi Saopha Hkun Hsang Tone Hung, which has already been renovated as Hsenwi Haw Palace Cultural Museum, was held on 11 April. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Also present at the ceremony were Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the SAC Chairman Prime Minister, Council members, Union Ministers, Shan State Chief Minister, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung and wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung and wife, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, well-wishers and local people.

During the ceremony, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister delivered an opening remark as follows:

  • The Haw palace of north Hsenwi Saopha which was built in 1910 was destroyed by fire in bomb attacks in April 1944.
  • As per the request of the local people, the Saopha was rebuilt by the government and the Tatmadaw without losing original works as a symbol of national unity of the local ethnic people and a historical building in the region.
  • Likewise, the Mongpun Haw Palace is being renovated whereas arrangements are being made to rebuild the Kengtung Haw Palace without losing its original design. These buildings are expected to attract local and foreign travellers for the development of the regions.
  • As part of a historical building and symbol of national unity in the Hsenwi region, the Hsenwi Haw Palace was renovated by the government and Tatmadaw to fulfilling the wish of the local people. The Senior General expressed his pleasure in hearing the news that the Saopha palace has already been rebuilt, and also believed that the local people will also be delighted.

Then, a town elder U Sai Myo Nyunt, chair of the Hsenwi Haw Palace reconstruction cooperation committee, said that local ethinc people such as Shan, Kachin, Kokant, Wa, Palaung, Lahu and Lisu have been residing in the whole northern Shan State including Hsenwi town in unity and in weal and woe since ancient times as a good historical tradition. A magnificent building has emerged thanks to the rebuilding of the palace, a cultural heritage of Hsenwi town without harming the original style. It is a landmark that can facilitate regional development and unity of local ethnic people.

Later, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing pressed the button to unveil the plaque of the Hsenwi Haw Palace Cultural Museum and sprinkled scented water on it, and then viewed round the cultural museum. The SAC Chairman Prime Minister and wife received painting and local products as a gesture of hailing the inauguration ceremony of Hsenwi Haw Palace Cultural Museum presented by an official of the Shan Literature and Culture Association. Then, the Prime Minister presented the commemorative gifts to them.

After the ceremony, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and wife, and party splashed departmental officials, people’s militia troops and local ethnic people with cool Thingyan water as part of warmly welcoming the New Year.
