National Level Central Committee for Resettlement of Internal Displaced Persons and Closure of Temporary IDP Camps Hold Coordination Meeting (1/2023)

The coordination meeting (1/2023) of National Level Central Committee for resettlement of internal displaced persons and closure of temporary IDP camps was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Border Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw on 7 April.

The meeting was attended by Chair of National Level Central Committee for resettlement of internal displaced persons and closure of temporary IDP camps Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung, the The Vice Chair of National Central Committee Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine, committee members, permanent secretaries, and region/state level committee members via video-conferencing.

First, the Chair of National Level Central Committee for resettlement of internal displaced persons and closure of temporary IDP camps stressed as follows –

The gaining success of resettlement process for the IDPs and pointed out to draw the plans for the matters of long term standing such as education, health, road transportation, accessibility of water and electricity and sanitation system to be better than the original condition rather than providing assistance during sheltering in the camp.

  • During a period from 20 December 2022 to 7 April 2023, 27,957 people of 6,421 households were sent back to their respective homes and another 109 IDP camps and other temporary shelters were closed down.
  • If the IDPs are resettled and sent back to their native homes, the armed conflicts and community conflicts can be reduced as well as facilitated to implement regional development plans. So, the work committees and state level committees are urged to implement effectively with the good linkage and harmonious way.

Then, the work committees, state level committees and secretary of national level committee clarified completion of work implementation and plans to be carried out and the work completion reports as per the sectors, it is reported.
