Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Attends Ceremony to Erect Victory Monument in Cocogyun Township

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla attended the ceremony to erect the victory monument at the focal point of the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal in Cocogyun Township on 9 April.

First, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister and wife presented lunch for local people through officials at the lounge of Cocogyun Airport. Then, they arrived at the focal points of two seas, and heard reports on emergence of the victory monument presented by an official.

The Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister pressed the button to unveil the victory monument while Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the SAC Chairman, sprinkled scented water on the victory monument following the document photo session took place.

Cocogyun Township is formed with Mingalar Island, Slipa Island, Kywat Island, Jerry Island and Cocolay Island. It is located 242 nautical miles from Yangon and 125 nautical miles from Hainggyikyun. The Parle Parle maritime route is located to the north of Cocogyun, the meeting point of the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, and Coco maritime route is located to the south of the islands. As about 8,000 foreign going vessels pass the straits every year, they play an important role not only in the international maritime trade but also in Myanmar maritime interests.

Afterwards, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister and wife, and party inspected the construction of an earthen road between Byaing Island and Jerry Island. The Senior General and party then also viewed renovation of the old detention centre in Cocogyun in its original works.

The SAC Chairman Prime Minister and party viewed the documentary video clip on underwater natural scenes and water creatures cast in the Myanmar seas at the local naval base and an official conducted them.

After hearing the reports, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister stressed the need to systematically supervise underwater natural resources of the country not to be lost. Exploration of underwater natural resources and scene will help improve tourism industry. Officials need to take preventive measures against illegal fishing by violating relevant laws in the Myanmar waters and to curb activities to prevent the depletion of water creatures.
