Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Inspects Upgrades for Airports in Rakhine State

        The Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his entourage, the Rakhine State Chief Minister, the commander of Western Command and officials, inspected plans to upgrade airports in Rakhine State on 1st April.

        At the lounge of Sittway Airport, the Senior General heard reports by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and officials on plans to expansion of the runways and airports and further plans for upgrading works.

        After hearing the reports, the Senior General said the following instructions;

  • Expansion of airports and upgrading works need to be considered to do systematic calculations for long-term.
  • As Sittway Airport is an airport of the capital city of the State, it is required to expand the runways and upgrade Sittway Airport on priority for admitting A-320 and B-737 aircraft.
  • Likewise, it is necessary to upgrade Thandwe airport to admit the landing of Jets as many local and foreign tourists arrive there.
  • As the neighbouring countries improve their domestic airlines, Myanmar also needs to try to upgrade its domestic aviation industry in order to facilitate domestic travel.

        The Senior General viewed situations to upgrade Sittway Airport and gave necessary guidance to officials, it is reported.
