The opening ceremony of the Myanmar Health Sciences Conference (2023) was held at Myanmar International Convention Center-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on 11 March. The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony to inaugurate the conference and delivered a speech.
First, the Vice-Chairman of the SAC Deputy Prime Minister and relevant officials formally cut the ribbon to open the archway to the Myanmar Health Sciences Conference (2023). Then, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister pressed the ceremonial button to unveil the archway of the conference. After that, the Senior General delivered a speech as follows:
- “The Myanmar Health Sciences Conference” organized by the Ministry of Health will be held under the title of “Quality Care in Medical Practice”.
- With government’s leadership and guidance, assistance from friendly countries based on energetic force of the medical experts and internal volunteer organizations including the retired experts from Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defence, and collaborative efforts of ethnic national brethren, the country could fight back and control COVID-19 infection to a certain degree.
- As the SAC could successfully implement the second point mentioned in the five-point road map saying “Effective measures will be taken with added momentum to prevent and manage the COVID-19 pandemic” during the two-year emergency period.
- Therefore, it has also adopted a new second point saying “Public-centred development work that enhances socioeconomic well-being will be undertaken to ensure the country’s prosperity and food security” that also covers the entire health sector.
- In implementing the third point of the social objectives of the SAC: “To strengthen basic health care to achieve the emergence of a health system that embraces the longevity and health of the entire nation”, the Ministry of Health plays a pivotal role in cooperation with the relevant departments and philanthropic organizations and collective efforts of the people to be able to secure success the goals and objectives step by step.
- Not only the Ministry of Health and health experts but relevant departments, organizations and entire people are to join hands in taking measures for the improvement of basic healthcare services to ensure the longevity of all the people and the enhancement of life expectancy.
- With an intention to enable the public to receive medical treatments conveniently, the government increases budget allocations for the health sector yearly to carry out maintenance, expansion and construction of public hospitals, and to constantly fulfill medications and modern medical equipment for quality treatments.
- Moreover, the expansion and construction of staff housings to enable the health workers to serve their duties comfortably as well as measures are being taken to provide cash rewards and other benefits to them.
- A total of 16 medical-related universities and 53 nursing and midwifery training schools are giving trainees to nurture the qualified human resources for health with revised curriculums as per the requirements.
- It was learnt that the curriculums are being changed in accordance with result-based inter-professional teaching methods to meet international standards, and then inter-professional education and practical cooperation are being introduced to enable medical experts to cooperate among others.
- Medical universities and dental medicine universities admit students who are actually interested in medical science abiding by medical ethics, serving duties in the health arena and giving healthcare services to people with goodwill and compassion, as of the 2022 academic year with the new school admission system.
- The Department of Medical Research under the Ministry of Health is conducting the constant research with the aim of enhancing the health status of the people. The Senior General also honoured the successful holding of the Myanmar Health Research Congress till 51st time.
- As the Ministry of Health works day and night to improve the country’s health standard and make sure the entire people in order to live long free from diseases as the objectives, the Senior General expected deeply that “today’s Myanmar Health Sciences Conference” will pave the way for realizing these objectives.
- At the event, the professors at home and abroad from the health related arenas and medal experts in attendance will inherit the legacy of healthcare experiences to new generation health doctors and medical experts who will serve the duties of the medical treatments of the country in future.
- All are urged to cooperate in the collective efforts for gradual improvement of Myanmar’s health standard by thoroughly learning and utilizing their knowledge, experiences and techniques acquired from today’s event.
- All are to work together for the emergence of a qualified public healthcare system with the low medical expenses for the public with goodwill and compassion in order to meet the enhancement of the healthcare service standard for the entire ethnic national brethren, the people’s life expectancy and ensure everyone is free from disease.
Later, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister and those present at the event watched a documentary video clip on the activities of the Ministry of Health. They then interestingly observed round documentary photos on the activities and achievements of relevant departments for the health sciences development, and photo records on cooperation with the international community.
