Opening Ceremony of 51st Myanmar Health Research Congress Held

The opening ceremony of the “51st Myanmar Health Research Congress” took place at the Department of Medical Research in Dagon Township of Yangon Region on 20 February. First, the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech via video message.

During the ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win delivered a remark as follows:

  • The theme for this year’s congress is “The Fight against Zoonotic Diseases: A One Health Approach”.
  • Health-related research should be conducted for the benefit of the country and its people.
  • The researchers also work hard to express the findings in local and foreign research journals in addition to reading out the research to ensure knowledge sharing and management at the congress.

Then, the Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein and and regional ministers, directors-general of the Ministry of Health, rectors and officials of the Defence Services Medical Research Unit observed the posters displayed at the ceremony.

On the first day and second day of the 51st Myanmar Health Research Congress, the resource persons read out 27 research papers on Basic Research, Applied Research, and Social and Health Systems Research, and the attendees discussed papers.

The congress will take place from 20 to 24 February. During the congress, 18 basic research papers, 32 Applied Research papers, 8 Health Systems Research papers and 34 research posters, totaling 92 will be presented. The paper award selecting subcommittee will present the best paper awards including Basic Research, Applied Research, Health Systems Research, best poster and young researchers. The experts from the Pusan National University of ROK, and the Miyazaki University of Japan will attend the congress in person and the ones from the University of California Davis of the US will attend online, it is reported.
