MWAF Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Wife of State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Attends Opening Ceremony of 19th Annual Meeting of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation-MWAF

The opening ceremony of the 19th Annual Meeting of the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation (MWAF) was held at the Thiri Yadanar hall of the headquarters of the MWAF in Nay Pyi Taw on 16 January. It was attended by the Myanmar Women ’s Affairs Federation-MWAF Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister, other Honorary Patrons Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe, chairperson of Myanmar National Committee on Women Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, permenant secretaries and directors-general, chairperson of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation and executive members, second leaders, branch leaders, secretaries, chairpersons and secretaries of Women’s Affairs  Organizations in Nay Pyi Taw Council area and Regions/States, officials from Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myanmar Women and Children's Life Promotion Association, Myanmar Red Cross Society and Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

The Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khaing said the following points at the ceremony:

  • According to Beijing Declaration of 1995, Myanmar National Committee on Women-MNCW, a national-level mechanism, was established on 3 July 1996 in order to give women the opportunity of participating in multi-sectors and promote the capability and development of women. The MWAF has participated in such committee as a member and is actively taking part in committees on women formed in Nay Pyi Taw Council area/ regions/ states/ districts/ townships.
  • With regard to activities related to gender equality, protection of women and enhancement of capability for women being carried by the government, Myanmar National Committee on Women is following the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and implementing international programs such as Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN in 2015 as per national policy.
  • In carrying out the processes of the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women 2013-2022 (NSPAW) Phase-1 which are Women and Education, Health, the Economy, the Media, the Environment, Violence against Women, and Women and Emergencies and the women in the conflict areas, MWAF is also cooperating on the processes. In this regard, the Union minister expressed a feeling of delight for doing so. Moreover, measures are being continued to draw the NSPAW (2023-2032) Phase-2.
  • As the roles of the committee members from the NGOs are of importance for the implementation of social welfare tasks including the processes related to ASEAN for the development of women, all are urged to cooperate with Myanmar National Committee on Women in implementing the roadmaps.

At the program of awarding the villages under the development program for women rural areas, the Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla presented awards for the best coverage and capability to the representatives of first prize winner of Shan state, second prize winner of Magway region, third prize winner of Yangon region, special prize winner of Chin state and Bago region. Then the Honorary Patron Daw Khin Thet Htay presented awards for best coverage to the representatives of first prize winner of Kachin state, second prize winner of Sagaing region, third prize winner of Mon state and special prize winner of Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, while the Honorary Patron Daw Than Than Nwe presented awards for the best capability to the representatives of the first prize winner of Ayeyarwady region, second prize winner of Kayin state, third prize winner of Rakhine state, special prize winner of Kayah state and Taninthayi region respectively.

Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, the wife of State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister and other Honorary Patrons took a documentary photo together with the attendees of the ceremony and then looked around the photos showing the activities of MWAF. Afterwards, the 19th Annual Meeting of MWAF was commenced and the Nay Pyi Taw/ regions/ states women affairs organizations presented the activities during the two-year period which were reviewed by the chairpersons of the meeting.  The annual meeting will be consecutively held from 16 to 17 January, it is reported.

Other Honorary Patrons also presented awards to the representatives from the award winning regions and states.
