Offenders Convicted by Military Tribunals and Given Respective Sentences for Supporting and Contacting with Terrorist Groups, Taking Trainings in EAOs’ Areas and Committing Acts of Terrorism

Nine offenders including Aung Paing Thu (aka) Moe Nyo, living in North Okkalapa township reportedly sentenced to the penalty of ‘life imprisonment’ on 6 January 2022 for conducting bombing attacks, being involved in assassinations of innocent civilians, taking explosive trainings in the area of EAO, contacting with the associations declared as terrorist groups and collecting donation cash to support the groups.

Four other offenders including Zwe Wai Yan Htet (aka) Eddison were convicted by Military Tribunal of Martial Law and sentenced to the penalty of ‘death’ on 6 January 2022 for shooting and killing a hundred-houses elder living in Yuzana street, No. (5/1) ward of Shwepyitha township of Yangon region. On 13 October 2021.

A total of 10 offenders including Soe Naing were convicted by Military Tribunal of Martial Law and sentenced to the 20 years imprisonment with labour on 6 January for harassing the ward administration members doing their duties to ensure community peace and security, attempts to blow up a house of a hundred-houses elder using a homemade bomb with timer on 17 November 2021.

The so-called PDF terrorist groups are recklessly doing the acts of terrorism with an intent to disrupt the State’s peace, tranquillity and rule of law. Therefore, security force members are identifying the terrorist groups and their supporters and taking punitive legal actions against them.

23 types of crimes to be adjudicated by Military Tribunal in the townships under Martial Law order has been released as an appendix and effective and prompt legal actions reportedly have been taken against those who committed the crimes.

  • The nine offenders who were in contact with terrorist groups, took explosive trainings in the area of EAO and committing the acts of terrorism adjudicated by Military Tribunal of Martial Law and reportedly sentenced to the penalty of ‘life imprisonment’.
  • Four offenders were convicted by Military Tribunal of Martial Law and sentenced to the penalty of ‘death’ on 6 January 2022 for shooting and killing a hundred-houses elder in Shwepyitha township.
  • 10 Offenders were convicted by Military Tribunal of Martial Law and sentenced to the 20 years imprisonment for harassing the ward administration members and blowing up a house of a hundred-houses elder with homemade bomb with timer.
