The Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung met the delegation led by Mr. Zhao Jia Ao, the Secretary-General of the Myanmar Promotion Centre based in Chongqing, China at the Ministry on 27 December.
At the meeting, the Chinese delegation discussed the following matters:
- The establishment of the Myanmar Promotion Centre was to make Myanmar widely known not only to the people of Chongqing but also to the people of western China and increase China-Myanmar cooperation.
- As the China-Myanmar Investment Forum, the China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo and the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Partnership City Week Programme are scheduled to be held in Chongqing, we would like to extend an invitation to the Ministry and tourism associations to exhibit the China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo in which 150 booths would be included.
- The China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo includes plans to directly promote Myanmar's travel destinations online as well. It is also planned to hold this expo regularly every year. In order to attract tourists from Chongqing to Myanmar, it will be more convenient if direct flights are arranged. China would like to cooperate with the ministry on matters related to the promotion of China-Myanmar tourism.
The Union minister responded that preparations including language matter are being made to facilitate the visit of Chinese tourists. The ministry will cooperate with related ministries and tourism associations to participate in the China-Myanmar Investment Forum, the China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo and the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Partnership City Week Programme to be held in Chongqing as well. The Union minister expressed his gratitude to the secretary-general for organizing 50 tourism booths as well as free travel and accommodation for Myanmar. He also suggested the secretary-general should visit other destinations during his visit to Myanmar.
