Matters to Help Myanmar Nationals Stranded in Middle East Countries and Prevent Illegal Labour Migration Discussed

Union Minister for Labour Dr. Pwint San said the following points at the coordination meeting held on 27 December that discussed matters to help Myanmar nationals stranded in Middle East Countries and prevent illegal labour migration, calling for relevant ministries to save Myanmar nationals facing difficulties and hardship abroad and bring them back to Myanmar the quickest:

  • Relevant ministries are urged to provide required assistance to Myanmar nationals who are actually facing difficulties and hardship in foreign countries by systematically realizing the ways and procedures as well as bearing costs to bring them back to Myanmar.
  • Since Myanmar workers illegally went to Middle East countries, such as UAE, Oman, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to work there as housemaids and general workers, some people are facing social suffering due to various causes.
  • Since some people contacted the Ministry of Labour and asked for help, the Ministry is helping them in cooperation with other relevant ministries.
  • In preventing illegal labour migration, the public should be educated and given proper notice. Additionally, officials should minutely scrutinize those who are leaving for abroad for work with visiting visa at the departure lounge of the international airport. Then, measures and legal actions should be taken to identify, arrest traffickers.

Afterwards, the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine clarified the situation to commence the opening of temporary reception centres in Muse, Mandalay, Myawady, Kawthaung and Yangon for caring Myanmar migrant workers who are being stranded in foreign countries and facing the risk of human trafficking. She added that the Ministry gave the help to seven smuggled females who made live recording on social media network for help in Dubai.

After that the Deputy Minister and officials presented the reports about future work plans and the Union Ministers made necessary coordination.
