Union Ministers Attend Informal Consultation Held in Thailand

At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand Mr Don Pramudwinai, the Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin accompanying with Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw and Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing attended the Informal Consultation held in Bangkok on 22 December.

During the Informal Consultation –

  • The Myanmar delegation cordially explained and discussed the matters of Myanmar’s cooperation with ASEAN for the implementation of the ASEAN five-point consensus, Myanmar government’s efforts in peace talks with Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) with unilateral ceasefire announcement, successful prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery, meetings with political parties, Union Election Commission’s preparation for free and fair elections and the progress of the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people in need in Myanmar.
  • In addition, the Myanmar delegation explained terrorist activities committed by so-called NUG, CPRH, and PDF inflicting casualties of innocent civilians, Buddhist monks and nuns, and damages to State-owned and private-owned buildings including schools, hospitals, banks, markets as well as the transportation infrastructure of roads and bridges, passenger vehicles. Moreover, transmission pylons were also burnt down. Since the acts of such terrorist organizations obviously breach the International Law and Geneva Conventions, ASEAN member countries should not contact with or support the terrorist organizations.
  • As the side-line programme, Myanmar delegation met with responsible officials from respective departments concerned as well as the representatives from private sector and cordially discussed on the matters of Myanmar-Thailand bilateral cooperation in political, economic and social-cultural sectors and processes to be implemented.

The delegation led by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam attended the Informal Consultation, it is reported.
