3rd Regional Workshop on ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals Held

Myanmar hosted the 3^rd Re­gional Workshop on ASEAN Common Competency Stand­ards for Tourism Professionals in a hybrid system on 20 December.

Speaking at the workshop, the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung said the following points:

• The country is carrying out the ASE­AN mutual recognition arrange­ments on tourism professionals to facilitate work processes of these professionals, mutual recognition and management sectors.
• While the country is serving as Chair of the ASEAN Tourism Professional Monitor­ing Committee, it released ASE­AN mutual recognition plans on the Tourism Professionals 2019-2023 in 2019 and served as the leading country in im­plementing work procedure 1 of that plan.
• The third workshop is held to discuss the initial findings as it is required to undate the Packaging Rules and update the standards for each job title.
• Then, the representatives from 10 ASEAN countries dis­cussed the Packaging Rules for job titles, hospitality service, bedroom maintenance service, food production service, food and alcoholic beverage service of hotel service sector.

The workshop was attended by departmental senior officials, professionals from ministries for tourism, ASEAN-level and national-level experts for teaching and assessment, instructors, representatives from hotels, the ASEAN Tour­ism Professional Monitoring Committee chairperson and members, officials from ASEAN Secretariat office and representatives from (10) ASEAN countries. It is reported that the second-day session of the workshop will be held on 21 December.
