SAC Member Union Minister Lt-Gen Soe Htut Attends 1/2022 Meeting held by Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control

The Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) held a meeting (1/2022) at the Areindama hall of the Myanmar Police Force in Nay Pyi Taw on 14 December.

SAC Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, in his capacity as CCDAC chairperson, said the following points:

  • In 2022, there were 6,276 seizures of narcotic drugs, over 1.1 tonnes of opium, 1.32 tonnes of heroin, 164.87 million stimulant tablets, 21.75 tonnes of Ice (methamphetamine), 2.04 tonnes of ketamine in addition to other narcotic drugs and chemical precursors, worth more than K1,069.94 billion, were seized.
  • The success will be achieved only if respective region and state anti-drug agents should work with 11 working groups under the CCDAC.
  • Those who participated in drug operations were promoted and awarded certificates as well as cash rewards. Similarly, those involved in drug-related cases were taken legal action. 
  • The anti-drug agents in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and respective regions and states were called on to participate in anti-drug operations across the country in accordance with the newly drafted policies and accelerate the operations in 2023 than in 2022.

Also present at the meeting were central committee members, chairpersons and secretaries of working groups, senior police officers, representatives from relevant ministries and officials while chairpersons of drug abuse control committees and officials from respective regions and states attended the meeting via videoconferencing.
