Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Meets MSME Busineepersons from Kachin State

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met the businesspersons from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of Kachin State on 13 December to discuss regional economic development.

Also present at the meeting along with the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister were Council members, Union ministers, Kachin State Chief Minister, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Commander of Northern Command, deputy ministers, members of state government, MSME businesspersons of Kachin State and officials.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister said as follows:

  • Although the current government did not receive foreign loan and cash assistance at the time of assuming State responsibilities, the government has been paying the foreign debts.
  • Now, the country’s economy has improved again to a certain degree. Only when encouragement is given to domestic manufacturing business will the nation develop. This is why MSMEs are being encouraged.
  • If rural people develop their socioeconomic lives, the demand for rural businesses will increase. If so, money circulation will improve, and the State economy will develop.
  • As such, MSME businesses are being encouraged to substitute imported goods and increase the export volume.
  • Kachin State has abundant sources of hydropower generation so it is necessary to efficiently utilize the resources to generate hydropower in the state. To electrify people, electricity can be generated through solar power and wind power. On the other hand, the consumption of electricity must be saved.
  • In transporting goods also, cargo trains should be used because they consume less fuel but can carry large amounts of goods. Individuals’ saving of fuel will reduce foreign exchange spending.
  • It is necessary to manufacture products beneficial for the majority of the people rather than the individuals in Kachin State.
  • The state has abundant bamboo and wood. With the use of them, pulp can be produced to meet local paper demand.
  • Other kinds of bamboo-based products can also be manufactured. For that, the State will provide necessary assistance. Likewise, processing of fruits grown in Kachin State into value-added goods will ensure exports and benefits.
  • The government is providing encouragement to the best of its ability to generate qualified human resources through education promotion. The promotion of the education sector is to uplift the future of individuals and the country. Education promotion must be done for turning out human resources for the development undertakings of the nation.
  • The government will give a helping hand to Kachin State for the development of MSME businesses. Local entrepreneurs are also urged to make collective efforts to develop the businesses.

Later, the Chairman of the SAC Prime Minister interestingly viewed round the natural resource products, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial products, traditional handicrafts, clothes and traditional medicines displayed at the booths and asked about grasping market shares for these products, and the entrepreneurs explained in details.
