The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and senior military officers, Chief Minister of Magway Region, Commander of Central Command and officials, inspected the Defence Services Cotton Cultivation Unit (Pwintbyu) on 27 November.
The Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and party heard reports on the cultivation of cotton in accordance with production targets for respective cultivation seasons of the unit, functions of the Tatmadaw Cotton Cultivation Unit (Lunkyaw) and sufficient supply of water for cultivated lands presented by an official of the unit.
After hearing the reports, the Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services said as follows:
- Magway Region is a region of producing cotton. So, Tatmadaw cotton cultivation units need to grow and produce cotton to meet the demand of Tatmadaw factories.
- It can be seen that per-acre yield of cotton is still low, so efforts must be made for increasing the per-acre yield in order to meet the cotton demand of the Tatmadaw. The surplus sown acreage must be used in livestock farms and waste from animals must be made as fertilizer.
- Measures must be taken to increase the production rate of cotton by making the correct manner in the use of quality strains, preparation for soil to have fertile soil, sufficiency of agricultural water and use of correct agricultural techniques.
- It is required to grow windbreaks around the farms to green the environments. Efforts must be made practically for achieving success in assignments.
The Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and party inspected the cultivation of cotton plants and production of cotton in Defence Services Cotton Cultivation Unit (Pwintphyu), and gave necessary instructions on reports of responsible officers.
