Fresher Welcome Ceremonies for First Year Students Organized at Medical and Allied Universities

The welcome ceremonies for fresher students who are going to attend first year courses at medical and allied universities under the Ministry of Health were celebrated on 21 November at the University of Medicine (1) Yangon via the hybrid system.

At the ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khine Win made the opening remark as follows:

  • The oral test system was included in the new entrance examination for the admission of medical and allied universities this year. It aims to select those who are actually enthusiastic about medical professionals for their careers.
  • During this academic year, 1,123 students gained an admission to Universities of Medicine under the State program and other 36 students gained an admission to medical universities by their own expenses. 224 students gained an admission to Universities of Dental Medicine under the State program and two other students gained an admission to the universities by their own expenses.
  • 375 students gained admission to Universities of Pharmacy; 338 students to Universities of Medical Technology; 528 students to Universities of Nursing; 204 students to Universities of Community Health; and 161 students to Universities of Traditional Medicine that admitted students to the universities based on their scores on six subjects in the matriculation examination
  • Fresher students are required to try hard till they achieve their goal in life by learning respective medical studies to the end at the universities, and they are urged to become medical professionals who provide people with healthcare service.

Retired Union Ministers of Ministry of Health and officials, Chairmen and representatives of Myanmar Medical Association, Myanmar Medical Council, Myanmar Health Professionals Team, Myanmar Dental and  Oral  Medical Council, Myanmar Dental Association, Myanmar Nursing and Midwifery Council, and fresher students attended the ceremonies. Officials from Universities of Medicine and allied universities in Mandalay, Magway and Taunggyi cities attended the occasion via online system.
