Some 20 so-called PDF terrorists bearing weapons came to the Sokan monastery of the Sokan village in Myaing township on 3 January when the presiding Sayadaw U Nyannika, 44 (21 years of monkhood) was staying at the monastery with other five monks, including a monk who was in a temporary stay and a young man called Mg Htwe Lin, 27. As PDF terrorists arriving in the monastery were swearing at the Sayadaw, Sayadaw U Nyannika fled away to escape from the risk of terrorists, bringing young novices.
Terrorists shot at a vehicle ‘MARK II car’ owned by the monastery parking in its compound, and then attempted to blow up the vehicle by using two homemade mines but no explosion took place. Then, terrorists entered into the Buddhist ordination hall again and robbed two cell phones from the guest Sayadaw. After that, they drove off with their motorbikes along the Myaing-Kamma road after.
In the aftermath of the attack, the rear right wheel of the MARK II vehicle was damaged by two bullet rounds shot by terrorists. Moreover, security forces spotted two unexploded homemade mines on the ground near the vehicle and cleared the mines.
PDF terrorist groups are consecutively doing acts of violence against people living peacefully and torching people’s houses. Moreover, they are blasting monasteries, which are holy places for Myanmar people who believe in Buddhism, in some townships. Such doings are the despicable actions that attack the religion believed by majority of Myanmar people. People are denouncing their acts of violence and willing the international community to oppose the terrorists’ acts.
Security forces members searched the fled presiding Sayadaw together with three novices and brought them to a safe haven together with the guest Sayadaw. Afterwards, measures are being taken to search and arrest the terrorists who committed terrorist acts in the compound of the monastery.
