Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Delivers an Address at Inauguration Ceremony of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered opening remarks at the Inauguration Ceremony of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition for 2022 which was held at Zeyathiri Tatmadaw Sports Ground in Nay Pyi Taw on 14 November.

Also present at the event together with the Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing were his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Union ministers and their wives, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander and wife, officers, other ranks and families of offices and departments of Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and of battalions/corps under Nay Pyi Taw Command, members of Nay Pyi Taw War Veterans Organization, and contestants of the sports competition.

At the inauguration ceremony of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition for 2022, the Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services took the salute of athletes led by the parade commander. Then, he delivered a speech as follows:

  • Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) sports competition comprises 10 sports events. These sports reflect the physical fitness, diligence and unity of military personnel.
  • As it aims to turn out new generation athletes in order to bring honour to the State through Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) sports competitions, they all have to show off their brilliant skills and talents in the competitions.
  • Arrangements are being made for ensuring the sharpening of sports skills of Tatmadaw member athletes and for giving chance for those to systematically take sports training.
  • As uplifting the sports sector means protecting the State, all athletes try hard to secure success in their respective sports events so as to bring honour to the State and Tatmadaw.
  • Sports are a national duty to uplift the prestige of the State and the nationality based on the situations that have been already changed.
  • The concept to polish the image of the nation is a part of competing with the opponents without giving up till the last second. The victory and fame of an athlete automatically uplift the prestige of their representing country and themselves.
  • Myanmar’s martial art which is one of the sports events to be held today is a sporting event showing off national spirit, braveness, activeness and physical fitness.
  • In the past, Myanmar’s art of sword fighting played a key role in bravely fighting against the colonialists in Myanmar history. Hence, the Myanmar martial art event was included in the sports competition in 2019.
  • As the spouses of Tatmadaw members are of importance in the defence sector, track and field, judo, volleyball and shooting events were included for the participation of women similar to that of men.
  • A wife of the Tatmadaw member secured the gold medal in the judo event of the 31st SEA Games in 2022. So, the Senior General expressed his satisfaction for skills of spouses of the Tatmadaw members.
  • Athletes are urged to try to be the winners by showing off their capabilities at the respective sports events of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) sports competitions and to polish the image of the State and Tatmadaw as good Tatmadaw member athletes with the spirit of sportsmanship.

The Chairman of the SAC Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and attendees watched the first semifinal football match of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Cup (A Class) between the teams representing the Eastern Command and the Central Command.

The 2022 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition comprises 10 sports events for football, track and field (male and female), judo (male and female), Taekwondo, volleyball (male and female), Myanmar martial art, Sepak Takraw, Karatedo, boxing, and shooting (male and female) and will last till 25 November.
