It is reported that security force members managed to rescue a total of 26 civil servants and villagers including women and children from townships and villages of Sagaing region who were forcibly captured by PDF terrorists under NUG and CRPH at a PDF stronghold located near Myauk Yamar Dam, Phalan Pin Village of Pale township on 25 October.
In the incident, a wife of an officer from a local battalion in Gangaw township area was abducted by PDF terrorists near Kan Daunk village on her way fom Monywa to Kyaw township on 12 October. Acting on the information, a commando unit conducted search and rescue operations in the vicinity of Yin Paung Taing and Shwe Hlan villages and encountered clashes with KIA members and PDF terrorists. During the clashes, the stronghold of terrorists was captured and their dead bodies, some arms and ammunitions were seized but the captured victims were not found there.
Therefore, further investigations were carried out to rescue the capture victims and the location of the terrorists’ stronghold was found out thanks to the assistance of the hardcore informants. As the authorities made commando units raid the location and rescue the captured victims, a total of 26 including seven innocent women, four children and 15 males were safely rescued on 25 October.
The rescued people included innocent civilians who were captured during their travel; villagers from Zee Phyu Gon village which was burnt down by PDF terrorist group in February 2022; Tatmadaw personnel and Police Force members; a two-year-old toddler and a 12-year-old child. Some of them had been captured from seven month to one year.
In the rescue attempts, there had been three clashes between the Commando unit and combine forces of KIA member and PDF terrorists, and some bodies, weapons and ammunitions of terrorists were found and captured. As the terrorists during their retreat blew up the building where captured victims were staying, some of the victims were injured and security forces had to provide them necessary treatments, it is reported.
It is reported that forcible capture of women and children and threatening and detaining innocent civilians and civil servants amount to the war crimes according to the provisions of Geneva Conventions and International Law, and security force members will take counter-terrorism measures to take punitive legal action against those who committed such war crimes under Counter-Terrorism Law, Penal Code and relevant existing laws. People can covertly inform the security force members about the movement information of the terrorist group.
