The Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, in his capacity as the patron of the leading committee on organizing the competition, addressed the prize-giving ceremony of the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition held at the Conference Hall of the Myanmar International Convention Centre-II in Nay Pyi Taw on 18 October. In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the following points:
- The State Administration Council had to make considerable efforts to be able to hold the competition successfully after a five-year hiatus.
- In order to achieve the milestone of success in the competition, it depends on many factors, such as systematic learning of a study, consistent concentration and training, full stamina, tenacity and ingenuity.
- He is glad and proud for the contestants from regions and states who won the prizes individually or in groups, and also appreciates the efforts of the contestants who did not win any prizes.
- Holding the competition by spending time, manpower and time was to preserve the traditional cultures and customs of national brethren living in the country and hand them down to future generations.
- Traditional culture, norms and custom are highly interchangeable in the globalization of the world, and intentional cultural infiltration by various means to disappear traditional culture and customs is seen.
- It is important for all of us to prevent the disturbance to traditions and cultures of national people.
- He express the wish to them to perform the interests of the State and the people who are also national brethren through workplaces and classrooms, based on the prizes won in the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition; the friendship among contestants of national brethren during the period; and love.
Then, the Deputy Prime Minister gave the prizes of honour to the cultural troupes of various ethnic people from regions and states. The members of State Administration Council and officials gave the awards and certificates of honour to the winners.
As the medals gained in the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition by regions and states, Yangon region gained 128 medals, Mandalay region gained 88 medals, Ayeyawady region gained 58 medals, Bago region gained 33 medals, Kayin state gained 20 medals, Sagaing region gained 36 medals, Magway region gained 22 medals, Chin state gained 21 medals, Rakhine state gained 20 medals, Taninthayi region gained 23 medals, Kayah state gained 10 medals, Mon state gained 15 medals, Kachin state gained 11 medals and Shan state gained 19 medals, it is reported.
